Foster: ‘I want to become undisputed’

O’Shaquie Foster continues to prove why his name belongs among the sport’s pound-for-pound best.

In a unification bout, Foster (26-3, 12 KOs), who came in as the WBC 130-pound champion, dropped former WBO/IBF champion Emanuel Navarrete (40-3-1, 33 KOs) twice in Round 12 to win by unanimous decision on Saturday night at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Foster, 33, won by scores of 118-108 on two cards and 115-111 on the third.

With the win, Foster, now the WBC/WBO/IBF champion, is one step away from becoming an undisputed champion.

Navarrete came forward, and Foster used his boxing skills to control the action.

According to CompuBox, Foster outlanded Navarrete 157-99 and outlanded him in every round except the 10th; in that round, they landed an equal number of punches (23-23).

Early in the 12th round, the Texas native dropped Navarrete with a right hand while backed against the ropes. Foster scored another knockdown with a right hand, again fighting with his back against the ropes.

Foster has won four straight against opposition that includes Raymond Ford and Stephen Fulton.

“It was a great performance,” Foster said after the win. “I finished strong, and I put him down twice in the end. A lot of people were saying that I didn’t have power and that I wouldn’t be able to keep him off me. But I showed that I am a complete fighter.”

Previously, Foster said he wanted to go after Shakur Stevenson, but after the win, he made it clear he wants to be undisputed at 130 pounds.

“I want to become undisputed,” he said. “That’s my dream. I want to make history, and all I need is one more.”

His pursuit of the undisputed championship will have to wait until at least 2027, when he could face the winner of December’s Anthony Cacace–Nick Ball bout.

For now, Foster holds three world titles, with one more needed to become undisputed.
