Giants run past Texans in OT

Last week, Giants head coach John Harbaugh called out his running backs, wanting more from Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary.

On Sunday, against the Houston Texans, he got a lot from that position.

Tracy scored a rushing touchdown, while Skattebo rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown. Skattebo also had a 42-yard run that set up Singletary’s game-winning 30-yard touchdown in overtime, giving the Giants (4-2-1) a 27-21 victory over the Texans (2-5) at Reliant Stadium on Sunday.

Jameis Winston added a rushing touchdown. The Giants rushed for 188 yards on 34 carries and scored four touchdowns. The last time the Giants had four different players score rushing touchdowns in the same game was in 1950.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh says Singletary, who played for the Texans in 2023, made the play when it mattered most.

“I’ll tell you what, I can’t say enough about ‘Motor’ [RB Devin Singletary], and that’s on me,” Harbaugh said. “That’s on me. We were looking for the formula, and Devin wasn’t — he was the odd man out for a number of weeks. Not because of anything he did or didn’t do; he just was the odd man out, and that’s exactly what I told him. He asked me, ‘What can I do?’ I said, ‘There’s nothing you can do; you’re doing everything you can do, and your time will come.’ It was going to come. And look where it came, right there, and he came through.”

Giants quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who completed 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards, discussed what he saw on Singletary’s touchdown.

“Definitely had the best view in the building, being able to see him [New York Giants RB Devin Singletary] hit those gaps and make those cuts,” McCarthy said. “They just didn’t stop. They looked like it was the first play of the game when they were hitting those holes. It’s just a blessing to be a part of a group like that and have a running back group like that.”

The Giants go into the Bye Week in good shape. They’re leading the NFC East, and they may have found a quarterback to lead the way for the rest of the season.
