In his second preseason appearance, Sacramento Kings forward Ben Simmons impressed against the San Antonio Spurs in the team’s preseason finale.
Simmons had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and a steal in 26 minutes, as the Kings fell to the Spurs, 126-97, in San Antonio on Friday night.
The three-time All-Star started against the Spurs and went 5/9 from the field and 4/4 from the free-throw line.
He scored in multiple ways against the Spurs, including floaters, hook shots, and a jump shot.
The eight-year veteran also had a few nice assists, and he seems to have a connection with Zach LaVine, who had 20 points. Four of Simmons’ seven assists went to LaVine.
Simmons, who signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Kings this summer, looks like his old self.
The 30-year-old appears to have his athleticism back, which is great news for him and the Kings.
Simmons last played in the NBA in 2025 with the Los Angeles Clippers. That season, after signing with the Clippers in February 2025, he averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 18 games.
After that season, the 2018 Rookie of the Year stepped away from basketball and became a competitive angler.
If the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft can regain his old form, he could be one of the biggest offseason steals.
The Kings are the perfect situation for Simmons. Few expect Sacramento to be a good team this season, so if he has some rust, the Kings can be patient.
If Simmons balls out, they got a good player on the cheap. If he struggles, Sacramento’s financial commitment is limited.
A strong season could put Simmons in position to sign a larger contract with Sacramento or another team next offseason.
Sacramento begins the regular season next Wednesday night in Los Angeles against the Clippers.
