Former world champion Tim Tszyu got his first win since 2023 when he defeated Joey Spencer by fourth-round TKO Saturday night from the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Newcastle, Australia(Prime).

After a slow start, Tszyu(25-2, 18 KOs) started to pick up the pressure in Rounds 3 and 4, and Spencer (19-2, 11 KOs) could not handle it.

In round four, the Australian native unloaded with huge combos, while Spencer was only able to return fire with one or two shots at a time, but he was clearly damaged.  Ultimately, Spencer’s corner would throw in the towel 2:18 into the round.

According to CompuBox, Tszyu landed 41 power punches in the decisive fourth round.

“The critics are always going to be there, but I had to prove it to myself,” said Tszyu. “I proved it to everyone in the world. I’m back, baby, I’m back.”

Following the win, Tszyu called out Keith Thurman, who recently stopped Aussie Brock Jarvis back in March.

“Sign the contract, big boy,” said Tszyu. “If the fans want it, we can bring a mega-show to Australia. He knows who to contact.”

The prospect of a future fight with Keith Thurman is certainly an exciting one for boxing fans.

It’s always good to win, and that’s what Tszyu did on Saturday night, but is he beating the top guys at 154? Time will tell, but he probably gets hit a little too much; however, we’ll see.

The uncertainty about Tszyu’s performance against top competitors adds an intriguing element to his future matches.
