Canelo on fight with Mayweather: ‘It was experience who defeated me that night and that’s why it was a boring fight’

When Canelo Alvarez fought Floyd Mayweather back in 2013, many thought he could be the one that could give the undefeated Mayweather his first loss, but he received a boxing lesson and ultimately lost by majority decision.

Mayweather has since retired, but there is speculation he could return, while Alvarez gets ready to battle Rocky Fielding on December 15 at Madison Square Garden.

Recently, Canelo, who was 23 years old when he fought Mayweather, reflected on his fight with Mayweather, and he discussed his belief that a rematch would be much different:

“I’m a more complete fighter now. I would be much more competitive,” Canelo recently said. “I have a lot more experience. I have improved a lot, so it would be different.

“It was experience who defeated me that night, and that’s why it was a boring fight, as well, because he didn’t do too much to me, either. It was experience, and I’m a much more mature fighter. I’m a better fighter than the fighter that fought that night.”

Alvarez and his team had a bad game plan against Mayweather on that night, in which they tried to outbox one of the greatest technicians of all-time, but I do believe Alvarez is a different fighter at this point. However, in the end, he was not good enough on that night against Mayweather, and probably will never get a chance to avenge his only loss.
