Last month, Floyd Mayweather had the boxing world buzzing when he posted a video on Instagram announcing that he would return to the sport in December to fight Manny Pacquiao. Shortly after that Instagram video, TMZ Sports reported that Mayweather was looking to fight a tuneup in Japan, and then fight Pacquiao in 2019.
This would be a rematch of their fight from 2015 when Mayweather beat Pacquiao by unanimous decision.
However, not everybody thinks Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 will happen, including unified junior middleweight champion Jarrett Hurd.
“Mayweather likes to talk, man,” Hurd told Paul Gant. “Mayweather said he was going to get in the cage(MMA). Do you see him in the cage? Mayweather kind of like to stay in the mix. If I do see it, I would be surprised.”
Back in March, Mayweather, 41, did say he was looking to train for a possible appearance in the Octagon, but that talk has since cooled.
I think Mayweather will return, and I think he can make a lot more money. I just hope he’s coming back for the love of boxing, and not because he needs the money.
