WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman has been out of commission for more than a year due to an elbow and hand injury, which has some questioning his desire to box again, including former WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia, who was the last man to get in the ring with Thurman.
“I think he’s married now or he’s traveling the world, so his mind is not in the game,” Garcia recently said about Thurman. “So, I just don’t think he’s hungry anymore. I think he passed what he wanted to accomplish. I may be wrong, but from what I see that’s how it seems to be.”
According to the 29-year-old Thurman, he still has the hunger for the sport:
“Look, you’re not in my body; you’re not in my shoes,” Thurman said on Saturday. “You don’t know what it’s like to accomplish what I accomplished, and then, not turn your back on the sport, but walk away. We’re not walking away like retired.”
Thurman does expect to make an announcement soon about his next fight.
