Last summer, WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn(18-0-1, 12 KOs) shocked the world when he beat the great Manny Pacquiao in Australia. While the decision was controversial, Horn did fight well against Pacquiao.
The 30-year-old Horn fought a guy in Pacquiao who was slightly past his prime, but on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Horn is going to be fighting a guy in Terence Crawford(32-0, 23 KOs), who is in his prime, and who many believe is one of the pound-for-pound best in the sport.
Although Horn is undefeated, he is a massive underdog in this fight, which is very surprising to him:
“I’m surprised I’m as big of an underdog as I am for the fight. I’m not surprised I am the underdog,” Horn said on Thursday. “Terence Crawford is a great fighter, pound-for-pound, wiped out the super lightweight division. That’s a tough division as well. I’ve made this mistake before. I underestimated a guy that was slightly smaller than me – in the amateurs – and he knocked me down a couple times. I won’t be making that same mistake. Terence, I know he’s put on the size. He’s going to be a nice, strong welterweight. I can’t wait to get in there and prove the doubters wrong.”
“The Hornet” is not a scrub, but he does not have the talent of Crawford. He has to make it an ugly, dirty fight if he wants to have a chance against Crawford. However, even that may not be enough to get he victory on Saturday night.
