On Monday, Golden Boy Promotions announced that Canelo Alvarez tested positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol. According to Canelo, this positive test was a byproduct of contaminated meat from Mexico.
At this point, his May 5 rematch with Gennady Golovkin is still on.
Here is how Alvarez responded via Golden Boy Promotions:
“I am an athlete who respects the sport, and this surprises me and bothers me because it had never happened to me. I will submit to all the tests that require me to clarify this embarrassing situation, and I trust that at the end the truth will prevail,” Canelo said.
The Twitter reaction was fast and furious.
