Report: Kyrie Irving will not sign extension with new team

Where in the world will Kyrie Irving go? Will he stay in Cleveland? Will he go home to New York (Irving from New Jersey)? Phoenix? Miami? San Antonio? Who knows, but according to a report from Cleveland.com, Irving is not looking to sign an extension with any team that trades for him

Phoenix would be very interested in dealing for Irving. But the Suns would want to know if Irving will sign an extension to stay in Phoenix.  Irving is not about to commit to any team at this point. He has two seasons left on his contract(can opt of contract in summer of 2019) and wants to keep his options open, according to Cleveland.com’s Terry Pluto.

Irving is reportedly interested in four teams: Minnesota, San Antonio, Knicks, or Miami. Cleveland does not seem to be in any type of rush to trade Irving. If I’m the Cavs, I would wait for the best possible package. They have all the leverage right now.

Report: Kyrie Irving requests trade; interested in playing for Spurs

According to ESPN, Cavaliers G Kyrie Irving has requested a trade.  Irving, according to the report, wants to play a bigger role with another team, and does not want to play alongside LeBron James.

Irving made this known to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert last week, according to the report.

LeBron James, who is reportedly unhappy about the Cavaliers offseason, is said to be “disappointed” and ‘blindsided” about Irving’s request. Earlier this week, Irving told Sports Illustrated that the Cavs were in a “peculiar place.” I guess that could be part of the reason Irving wants out.

You wonder what the market will be for the 25-year-old Irving.  The 4x All-Star averaged 25.2. ppg last season.

According to the report, Irving is said to be interested in joining the Spurs, Knicks, Heat, or Timberwolves.

I don’t think Irving is a number one guy. He has never made the playoffs without LeBron.

Stay tuned for updates on this story.

Rudy Gay to the Spurs

Rudy Gay is expected to sign with the Spurs. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, it’s a two-year deal, worth $17 million plus with a player option. For Gay, it’s an opportunity to play for a contender. For the Spurs, you get another guy who can put the ball in the basket. Moreover, in order to beat the Warriors, you are going to have to score a lot of points.

Great opportunity for the 30-year-old Gay, who averaged 18.2 ppg for the Kings last season.

Report: Spurs get first meeting with Andre Iguodala

According to ESPN, Andre Iguodala’s first free agent meeting will be with the Spurs.  The meeting will take place in Los Angeles.

Losing Iguodala would be a blow for the Warriors. He was the NBA Finals MVP in 2015, and is a big time defender. Iguodala’s versatility and his ability to defend could be hard to replace for the Warriors.

The 33-year-old Iguodala was one of the finalist for the 2016-17 Sixth Man of the Year award.

The Spurs can two things with this move. They add the versatility of Iguodala, and deplete the Warriors. It could be a win-win for the Spurs.

How Carmelo Anthony can help dethrone the Warriors

After watching the 2017 NBA Finals, it became evident and obvious that it’s going to take a lot to dethrone a healthy Golden State Warriors team. The Warriors blitzed the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, and dominated each and every team they faced in the playoffs. Quite frankly, Golden State has way too much firepower for any team in the NBA.

However, there is one player that could give some of the top teams in the NBA a shot. That player is Carmelo Anthony. Melo can get 20 points a night in his sleep. Anthony, like Kevin Durant, can score in so many different ways. Can you imagine how good Anthony would be playing with a guy like LeBron James? Do you know how many open looks Anthony would get? It would be a match made in heaven. The Cavs have two guys that can legitimately create their own shot in Kyrie Irving and LeBron James. Against the Warriors, they could have used another guy that can create his own shot. Carmelo Anthony is that guy. Plus, it might not take much to get Melo. Reportedly, Cleveland tried to get Jimmy Butler and Paul George before the draft. The problem? Not enough assets. The lack of assets may not be as much of problem in terms of getting Anthony. According to reports, during the season, the Knicks were willing to trade Melo to the Clippers without getting DeAndre Jordan, Chris Paul, or Blake Griffin back. With that being said, Melo could possibly be had for very little.

I like to judge players on how well they perform when surrounded by great talent. Melo has won three Olympic gold medals in basketball, and is the all-time leading scorer in Team USA Basketball history. That’s better than LeBron, better than Kobe, and better than Jordan. This proves that when surrounded by great talent, Melo performs at the highest of levels. Plus, it shows he can blend in with a great team.

Finally, Anthony is 33-years-old. He does not have a lot of time to win a title. You put him on a contending team, he will be motivated enough to make it work. Anthony does have a no-trade clause in his contract, and at this point, Melo has expressed a desire to stay in New York. Maybe that changes after Melo realizes that he can’t win in New York.

Other teams that could be an option for Anthony are the San Antonio Spurs, who might unload LaMarcus Aldridge, and could use more firepower.  Boston, who could use another big time talent, could be a good destination for Melo as well!

Where will Anthony go?  I think it will be Cleveland when it’s all said and done!

LaMarcus Aldridge on the move?

Could the LaMarcus Aldridge era in San Antonio be over? Aldridge, who signed a 4-year, 84 million dollar deal with the Spurs in 2015, could be had for a top 10 pick, according Sam Amico.

Aldridge did have some struggles last season in San Antonio. He reportedly was upset with his role.

According to Amico, the Sacramento Kings could be the destination for Aldridge. The Kings have picks 5 and 10.

This should be fun!

Doc Rivers believes Chris Paul will stay with Clippers

There has been a lot of talk about the future of Chris Paul with the Clippers. The San Antonio Spurs reportedly might pursue Paul, who is expected to opt out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent this summer.  However, Clippers president/coach Doc Rivers believes that Paul will stay in Los Angeles. When asked by TMZ Sports if Paul is going to stay with the Clippers, Rivers said “absolutely.”

It might be a tall order for the Spurs to sign Paul anyway. According to ESPN, the Spurs would possibly have to do the following:

Spurs would have to renounce the rights to looming free agents Manu Ginobili, Patty Mills, and Jonathan Simmons as well as potential free agents Dwayne Dedmon and David Lee.

They may have to make other moves as well to make it work.

Plus, the Clippers could offer Paul more money (53 million more).   End of the day, the Spurs are cap-strapped; therefore, I don’t see it happening.

However, if there is a will, there is a way!

Zaza Pachulia responds to Gregg Popovich

Who do you believe? Do you believe Gregg Popovich or Zaza Pachulia. Pop says Pachulia is dirty, but Pachulia says he is not. Pop talked earlier today, and now Pachulia responds. “I’m not a dirty player. I love this game and I’m playing hard. That’s what I was taught since day one.”

Take a listen:

Gregg Popovich on Zaza Pachulia: ‘This particular individual has history with that kind of action’

Gregg Popovich was not very happy with Zaza Pachulia today. Pop believes what Pachulia did to Kawhi Leonard yesterday was dirty. Also, Pop said that Leonard is likely out for game 2 against the Warriors with an ankle injury.

Take a listen:

Pachulia’s gives his take from yesterday:

Durant defends Zaza on Sunday:

Leonard had this to say on Sunday:

Mike Brown defends Zaza today:

Will Kawhi Leonard be ready for game 2?

Update: According to ESPN’s Michael C. Wright, Leonard is expected to get a MRI on Monday.

The Spurs blew a great chance to get game one of the Western Conference Finals at Oracle Arena on Sunday.  The big reason why San Antonio lost was because of the injury to Kawhi Leonard. When Leonard left the game with an ankle injury, the Spurs were up 78-55 with 7:53 left in the 3rd Qtr. The Warriors would outscore the Spurs by 25 points the rest of the way to take game one 113-111. You wonder if Leonard will be ready for game 2 on Tuesday night. There is some speculation that he might not be available.

Even if Leonard plays on Tuesday, you wonder how healthy he will be for the rest of the series.
