The Atlanta Dream has signed six-time All-Star DeWanna Bonner to a rest-of-season contract, the team announced Thursday.
The 39-year-old Bonner, who is in her 17th season, joins the Dream after agreeing to a buyout with the Phoenix Mercury, which allowed her to sign with a playoff team.
She has appeared in 37 games, including 26 starts, this season for Phoenix, averaging 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Bonner, who is the only three-time Sixth Player of the Year in WNBA history, ranks third on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list. She is also one of just three players in league history to record at least 7,000 points, 3,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists.
Across her WNBA career, she has played for Phoenix, Connecticut and Indiana, averaging 14.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
The two-time WNBA champion with the Mercury joins an Atlanta team that has already secured its fourth consecutive WNBA Playoffs berth. Bonner adds championship pedigree and a wealth of postseason experience to a group preparing for a deep playoff run.
In corresponding roster moves, the Dream waived guards Aaliyah Nye and Jaylyn Sherrod. Sherrod had previously signed a developmental contract.
