Angel Reese grabs WNBA-record 26 rebounds as Dream win fourth straight

Last Thursday against the Sparks in Los Angeles, Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese delivered one of her best performances of the season, shooting 9-for-9 from the field and finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 124-88 rout.

On Monday night against Los Angeles, Reese struggled from the field, shooting 4-for-14, but she made up for it on the glass, finishing with 11 points and a career-high, WNBA-record 26 rebounds as the Dream (25-13) defeated the Sparks (13-25), 78-71, at Crypto.com Arena.

The 26-rebound performance came two days after Reese scored a career-high 31 points against the Mercury on Saturday.

Reese, who leads the league in rebounding, now owns the WNBA single-season record for total rebounds (452), surpassing A’ja Wilson’s previous record of 451 set in 2024.

The Dream have won four straight games, and during the winning streak, Reese is averaging 20.7 points and 15.0 rebounds.

Dream coach Karl Smesko has been impressed by Reese’s play during the Dream’s four-game road trip.

“Angel’s ​been ​remarkable ​on ​this ​trip,” Smesko said. “​You ​can ​see ​her ​getting ​better ​each ​month, ​and ​she’s ​just ​played at ​an ​extraordinary ​level ​during ​this road ​trip, ​and ​I ​think ​that’ll ​continue ​throughout ​the ​rest ​of ​the ​season.”

Reese recorded her 27th double-double of the season, putting her just two shy of tying the WNBA single-season record, but her focus remains on consistency.

“I ​want ​to ​be ​able ​to ​show ​up ​for ​my ​team ​every ​night, ​and ​I ​think ​the ​personal ​goals, ​they ​come,” Reese said. “​​When ​you’re ​great ​every ​night, ​and ​you ​show ​up ​for ​your ​team ​, and ​you’re ​consistent, ​I ​think ​everything ​else ​works ​out.”

Allisha Gray, who had a game-high 20 points, says she can shoot with confidence knowing Reese is there to clean things up on the glass.

“It’s ​just ​one ​of ​those ​things ​where ​we ​know ​Angel ​down ​there ​somewhere, so ​you ​just ​stay ​comfortable ​in ​your ​shot,” Gray said. “You ​miss, ​you ​know ​Angel’s ​gonna ​get ​the ​board. ​I ​mean ​she’s ​a ​great ​decision ​maker, ​high ​IQ ​player, so ​either ​she ​got ​the ​layup ​or ​she ​gonna ​dish ​it ​out ​to ​you ​for ​another ​shot, and ​that’s ​what ​make ​her ​so ​great ​too.”

Reese and the Dream are surging at the right time, and with the playoffs approaching, Atlanta’s rebounding leader is playing some of her best basketball of the season.
