On Friday, Golden Boy Promotions, Vergil Ortiz Jr., and Ortiz’s manager, Rick Mirigian, announced that they have reached an amicable settlement resolving all outstanding disputes.
According to Golden Boy, the agreement concludes the pending litigation and reaffirms the parties’ shared commitment to delivering the biggest fights to boxing fans around the world.
Under the terms of the agreement, all claims between the parties have been resolved. Additional terms of the settlement remain confidential.
Ortiz(24-0, 22 KOs), 28, filed a lawsuit in January against Golden Boy Promotions citing breach of contract and was looking to terminate his deal with the promotional company.
However, seven months later, the two sides were able to come to an agreement.
“Our relationship with Vergil has spanned more than a decade, and we are proud to have played a role in his development into one of the sport’s premier fighters,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy, in a statement. “We look forward to continuing our partnership and working together with Vergil Jr., Rick Mirigian, and the rest of Team Ortiz to deliver the biggest fights possible for boxing fans.”
Ortiz, who last fought in November 2025 when he beat Erickson Lubin, was glad that both sides could come together.
“I’m very grateful that Golden Boy and I were able to come to an understanding and resolve everything,” said Ortiz in a statement, “I’m excited to move forward and make the biggest fights happen, including the Ennis fight. My only focus is on delivering unforgettable fights for the fans, and I know my team and I will accomplish that together.”
This is great news for Ortiz and for the sport of boxing.
Before the lawsuit, the talk was Ortiz fighting unified 154-pound champion Jaron Ennis, and now that the lawsuit has been settled, the two sides can come together to make a fight.
