In her return to Chicago on Tuesday night, Atlanta Dream forward/center Angel Reese had 17 points and a game-high 17 rebounds as the Dream(8-3) defeated the Sky(4-8) 82-75 at Wintrust Arena in Commissioner’s Cup play.
With the win, Atlanta moves to 3-1 in Commissioner’s Cup play.
Reese, who had 17 rebounds in the team’s win over the Mystics on Saturday night, tied her season high with 17 rebounds to become the first player in Atlanta Dream history to record back-to-back 17-rebound performances.
The 24-year-old recorded her eighth double-double of the season, to mark her 57th career double-double, the most double-doubles in WNBA history across 75 games.
Many expected Reese, who was the seventh pick by the Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft, to be super motivated in her return to Chicago, but according to her, it was just another game.
“It’s just another basketball game,” Reese said after the win. “I have a lot of love for Chicago because I did have a great time here. The fans have still embrace me, so many people still have Chicago jerseys of mine and some Atlanta jerseys, and they show a lot of support, so I do appreciate the city too, and I had two great years here. I did a lot of great things here, and I’m still appreciative of it.”
All five Dream starters were in double figures. Rhyne Howard had 17 points, Naz Hillmon added 16 points, and Allisha Gray and Jordin Canada chipped in with 14 points apiece.
For the Sky, Natasha Cloud led the way with 17 points off the bench, and Skylar Diggins added 16.
Notes:
Howard eclipsed 2,500 career points and became the youngest player in WNBA history to record 2,500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, 200 steals, and 100 blocks. Howards sit atop in terms of age with Diana Taurasi and Maya Moore rounding out the top three.
