Eagles’ Roseman on Greenard: ‘Just a really fun guy to watch’

After losing Jaelan Phillips in free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles needed to get some help with their pass rush, and they did that on Friday night.

The Minnesota Vikings have traded OLB Jonathan Greenard and the 244th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for the 98th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Greenard and the Eagles reached an agreement on a four-year, $100 million extension that includes $50 million fully guaranteed.

Last season, Greenard, 28, had 3.0 sacks for the Vikings in 12 games. The seven-year veteran missed the last three games with a shoulder injury. Although his sacks were down in 2025, Greenard did have 47 pressures.

Before the 2025 season, Greenard recorded 12.5 sacks in 2023 and 12.0 in 2024.

Eagles Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman gave his thoughts on the acquisition of Greenard.

“Obviously, always looking to improve our pass rush, to improve our lines,” Roseman said. ”He’s one of six guys that’s had 12 or more sacks two of the last three years. Just a really fun guy to watch, a guy that we’ve been studying for a long time. Through the off-season, things change. Things change from when you start the off-season. ”As you come into the draft process, you get a truer sense, kind of as the process goes along, of the things that you have, the things that you need, the things you can acquire, and we felt like at this time, like this was a really good move for our football team.”

The trade for Greenard has been on the table for some time, and Greenard was in Philly yesterday. In addition, he was at Xfinity Mobile Arena to watch the Celtics-76ers. Roseman discussed the process of acquiring Greenard.

“I think that as we got through and got through the first night and saw what was there,” Roseman said. ”And it’s hard to know until you get past the first night of the draft and felt like we met last night after the draft and felt like we should go forward with this. We thought it would really improve the team, bringing him here tonight. I know he had a chance to go to the Sixers game. Just feel great about the person, feel great about the player.”
