Heat’s Bam Adebayo scores 83 points in win over Wizards

Heat center Bam Adebayo did the unexpected on Tuesday night in Miami against the Wizards. Adebayo scored 83 points on 20/43 shooting from the field, including 7/22 from deep and 36/43 from the free throw line as the Heat defeated the Wizards 150-129.

Adebayo’s 83 points, which surpassed Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game in 2006, are the second-most points in a game in NBA history. The only player who scored more is Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 100 points in 1962.

Adebayo scored 31 of his 43 first-half points in the first quarter, which is the most points in any quarter in franchise history. In addition, the 43 points in a half are the most by any player in team history.

Furthermore, the 36 free throws made and the 43 attempted are also the most in Heat history.

“I wish I could re-live it twice,” Adebayo said after the game. “So, this is a special moment. It’s Wilt, me, then Kobe, which sounds crazy.”

If you had told anyone that Adebayo would surpass Bryant’s 81 points, most would have doubted it, especially since he’s not a pure scorer.

Obviously, Bryant’s 81-point game was more impressive because he had more field goals(28) and had only 20 free throw attempts. However, give Adebayo his props; 83 points is 83 points.
