Before the 76ers’ 139-129 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena, the team announced that an MRI revealed that Tyrese Maxey has been diagnosed with a tendon injury to the small finger on his right hand.
According to the team, the All-Star guard will be reevaluated in approximately three weeks, and further updates will be provided as appropriate.
Maxey injured his finger in Saturday’s loss to the Hawks.
“Obviously, it’s a huge blow for him,” 76ers head coach Nick Nurse said as transcribed by Aaron Bracy. “He’s having an all-NBA season. Just hoping it heals really, really quick, and he gets back to where it doesn’t bother him at all. He’s obviously played tremendous. Obviously puts us in a bind with some of the other guys out too. Just hopefully these two or three weeks will whiz by and he’ll be ready to go.”
The 76ers (35-30), who are the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference and would be in the Play-In tournament if the season ended today, are currently without Joel Embiid (oblique) and Paul George (suspension), so things could get very interesting for the team without Maxey.
Hopefully, Embiid will get back soon from his injury, and we know George’s suspension ends on March 25, so Philadelphia will have to hope for the best over the next few weeks.
