Wagner to be sidelined three weeks due to high ankle sprain

Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner will be out indefinitely due to a left high ankle sprain, the team announced Wednesday.

According to the Magic, Wagner continues to experience soreness, and recent imaging confirmed that Wagner requires additional time and rehabilitation before returning to full basketball activities. He will be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks.

Wagner, who has missed 25 games due to the injury, originally sustained a left high ankle sprain during the first quarter on December 7 against the Knicks and missed the next 16 games. He returned to play in his hometown of Berlin, Germany, on January 15 and again on January 18 in London, England, but sat out the following nine games (Jan. 22-Feb. 7) as he managed the injury.

He returned on a tight minutes restriction, coming off the bench to play 16 minutes on February 9 vs. Milwaukee and 20 minutes on February 11 against the Bucks.

This season, in 28 games, Wagner is averaging 21.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.07 steals per contest.

Orlando begins a four-game road trip in Sacramento against the Kings on Thursday night.
