One of the biggest stories in college football this year was what happened with former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin. This season, Kiffin helped lead Ole Miss to an 11-1 record and a berth in the College Football playoffs.
However, Kiffin, who spent six seasons at Ole Miss, would leave to take a job at LSU. The Rebels replaced Kiffin with defensive coordinator Pete Golding, who was named the team’s head coach and will coach Ole Miss in the playoffs.
On Wednesday, New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, who Kiffin coached during his time at Ole Miss, shared his support for both Kiffin and the team. Dart expressed confidence in the team’s future and his respect for Kiffin.
“Yeah, crazy,” Dart said. “I think with Kiff, he kind of does some things that are unexpected. But I’m looking forward to his next opportunity and me and him just have such a great relationship. So, I know for him that he’s going to put his best foot down and do some really great things for that program. I’m definitely excited for him. I’m also really happy for Ole Miss, keeping Coach (Pete) Golding at the helm there. I was also just happy that they were able to keep their offensive staff, being able to come back and coach the rest of the playoffs. I felt like that would be kind of, I don’t know, just like a disrespect, a little bit to not allow those guys finish it out. Really happy to see or excited to see their run for a national championship this year.”
This is an unfortunate situation for Ole Miss. This is a very good football team, and losing your head coach before heading into the postseason is tough. It’s hard to blame Kiffin for taking the LSU job; in the end, the players at Ole Miss are the ones who could suffer, which is unfortunate.
