The Minnesota Vikings have waived WR Adam Thielen, the team announced on Monday.
In addition, Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah explained the move in a statement:
“Last week, Adam’s representation approached the team and asked if we would be willing to release Adam, expressing his desire to play a bigger role in the remaining weeks of what he has indicated will be his final NFL season,” Adofo-Mensah said. “Following discussions through the weekend and out of respect for Adam, we have agreed to give him the opportunity to pursue more playing time elsewhere. Adam is one of the all-time great Vikings, and we wish him and his family continued success.”
The 35-year-old Thielen, who Minnesota acquired from the Carolina Panthers in the offseason, spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Vikings after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota State University following the 2013 NFL Draft.
This season, in 11 games, Thielen has only eight receptions for 69 yards.
During his career in Minnesota, the Minnesota native has 542 receptions, 55 receiving touchdowns, and 6,751 receiving yards, ranking him third all-time in each category.
Not sure what Thielen has left, but it would be nice if he could find a bigger role with another team, and an opportunity to win in his final year in the NFL.
The Vikings(4-8), who have lost four straight, including its 26-0 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday, host the Commanders next Sunday.
