After losing two straight, the Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) got back to their winning ways after defeating the Minnesota Vikings (3-3) 28-22 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Philly’s ‘Big 3’ and their outstanding performances on Sunday:
-Jalen Hurts had his best game of the season. He completed 18-of-22 passes for a season-high 326 yards and three touchdowns. Hurts finished the game with a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3, which is the third time that has happened in team history.
-DeVonta Smith was a baller on Sunday. He had nine catches for a career-high 183 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown reception(longest in his career) in the third quarter. The 183 receiving yards are the most by any pass catcher this season.
-A.J. Brown had four catches for a season-high 121 yards and two touchdowns. Brown had touchdown receptions of 37 and 26 yards, and he made a huge 45-yard reception to help the Eagles salt the game away.
Smith and Brown combined for 304 yards and three touchdowns on 13 catches.
Honorable Mention:
-LB Jalyx Hunt recorded his first career interception, which he returned 42 yards for a touchdown.
-Rookie safety Andrew Mukuba was solid on Sunday. He had three tackles and his second interception of the season.
End of the Day:
The Eagles rebounded nicely against the Vikings. While Hurts had a great game, the offense still looked disjointed at times. The team had three straight three-and-outs in the first half. The offense is still a work in progress, but you can see the potential when it finally comes together.
The running game is still an issue. Saquon Barkley had 44 yards on 18 carries. It’s redundant, but the running game has to get better. The offensive line is not what it was last season, and if center Cam Jurgens, who left with a knee injury in the first half, is out for an extended period of time, that could be a problem.
Defensively, former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz(313 passing yards) and the Vikings had the Eagles’ defense bending, but it didn’t break; they did a great job of holding the Vikings to field goals.
What’s Next:
The Eagles will return home to face the New York Giants next Sunday.
One more thing..
-Moro Ojomo now leads the Eagles’ defense with a career-high 3.0 sacks this season.
-Philadelphia’s defense generated 2 takeaways, including 1 TD, and limited Minnesota to just 1-of-6 in the red zone. The 16.7% opponent red zone TD efficiency tied for the Eagles’ best mark since 2000 in games in which they faced 6+ opponent red zone drives (9/19/13 vs. Kansas City).
-Philadelphia owns the highest road winning percentage (.711, 27-11) in the NFL since the 2021 campaign. The Eagles have earned victories in eight of their previous 10 away games.
