Jalen Hurts silences critics; Eagles defeat Steelers to win franchise-best 10th straight game

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles (12-2) won their franchise-record 10th straight game after defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers (10-4) 27-13 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Philly’s ‘Big 3’ and their outstanding performances on Sunday:

-Jalen Hurts was big-time on Sunday. He was 25/32 for 290 yards and two touchdowns. Also, he ran for 45 yards and one rushing touchdown. It was his best performance of the season and came against an outstanding defense. He shut the critics up for now.

-A.J. Brown wanted to be more involved, and he was more involved. He had eight catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. When Brown is involved, this Eagles passing game is at his best.

-DeVonta Smith had his best game of the season. The “Slim Reaper” had 11 receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown. Like Brown, the Eagles passing game is special when Smith is involved.

Honorable Mention:

-Kenny Gainwell filled in admirably for a banged-up Saquon Barkley(19 carries, 65 yards). Gainwell had seven carries for 20 yards and three receptions for 40 yards. Gainwell made two great plays on third down, which helped extend drives.

-Nolan Smith had one sack, two tackles for loss, and two QB hits. Smith has 5.5 sacks on the season.

-The Eagles’ defense held Pittsburgh to 163 total yards (107 passing, 56 rushing). The offensive output was the Steelers’ lowest in a single game since 2010. They are the only team in the NFL to hold three opponents under 175 total yards in a game this season.

End of the Day:

Hurts, Brown, Smith, and the Eagles silenced all the doubters, naysayers, and haters after their performance on Sunday. The critics said the Eagles could not win if they had to rely on Hurts’ arm and guess what they did against the Steelers? They relied on Hurts to win it.

The way many talked about their performance against the Panthers, you would have thought the Eagles lost, but they won, and they keep winning, but they still need some help to get the number one seed in the NFC.

Philly needs to win out and hope that the Lions(12-2) lose one of their final three games(@Bears, @SF, Vikings).

What’s Next?

Eagles can clinch the NFC East next week if they beat the Commanders on Sunday in Landover, Maryland.

One more thing…

The Eagles have started 12-2 or better through 14 games for only the fourth time in team history, having previously done so in 2022 (13-1), 2017 (12-2) and 2004 (13-1). This is the seventh time Philadelphia has won 12+ games (also 1980, 2002-04, 2017 and 2022).

Nick Sirianni is the second head coach in club history to record multiple 12+ win seasons (also 14-3 in 2022), joining Andy Reid (three, 2002-04). He is the first Eagles head coach to do so within their first four years with the team. Nick Sirianni has produced a 46-19 (.708) career record in four seasons with Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is tied for the best record in the NFL (also Detroit).Per Elias Sports, Philadelphia is the fourth NFL team to win 10 games after a bye since byes were introduced in 1990 (2015 Panthers, 2012 Broncos, 2004 Steelers).

Quote of the Day:

“So that’s what you all wanted to see, huh?”

-Jalen Hurts
