Garcia: ‘I don’t know if I’m done yet’

In his first fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on October 20, 2012, Danny Garcia knocked out Erik Morales with a left hook at 140 pounds in the fourth round, and on Saturday night at Barclays, he did the same thing. This time, at 154 pounds, Garcia landed another beautiful left hook, which dropped Danny Gonzalez and Garcia would win by fourth-round KO, and his “Farewell to Brooklyn” was a success.

The two-division world champion fought his 10th and probably final fight at Barclays, which is the most by any fighter in boxing.

“I’m just so happy,” Garcia said after the win. “I’ve done a lot in my career, and this is a great way to end it all.”

The 37-year-old Garcia(38-4, 22 KOs) seemed to hurt Gonzalez(22-5-1, 7 KOs) in the first two rounds, and it seemed like it was a matter of time, but he said rust got in the way. Eventually, as we saw, he figured it out.

“I know that I hurt him in round one, but my timing was a little off,” Garcia said. “So I decided to work behind my jab, and I knew when he stopped his feet, I was gonna catch him. I was just taking it round by round. I didn’t underestimate him. He was in great shape. My dad told me to just stick to the game plan.”

Garcia, who was emotional after the fight, has done it all in boxing. Now he’s a promoter, and Swift Promotions promoted this card. It’s unclear if he’ll get back into the ring again, and after the fight, it was clear that he’s still undecided.

“I’m just so happy,” said Garcia. “I’ve done a lot in my career, and this is a great way to end it all. At the end of the day, I’m healthy and I’ve got a beautiful family. I don’t know if I’m done yet.”

Could Garcia get another payday? Probably. Can he beat any of the top guys at 154 pounds? Not so sure, but he’s been doubted his whole career, so with Garcia, anything is possible.
