Eagles get routed by Giants at MetLife

The Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) lost their second straight after falling to the New York Giants(2-4) 34-17 at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Philly’s ‘Big 3’ and their outstanding performances on Sunday:

-Eagles TE Dallas Goedert had nine catches for a season-high 110 yards and a touchdown. This is Goedert’s fourth straight game with a touchdown reception.

End of the Day:

This was a terrible performance by the Eagles. Defensively, they let rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo, and the Giants’ offense go up and down the field. The defense couldn’t stop the run(Giants rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns) or defend the pass. They were terrible.

Now, the defense was without CB Quinyon Mitchell for most of the game due to a hamstring injury, and did not have DT Jalen Carter(heel) at all. Those are the two best players on defense, and the Eagles clearly missed them. Kelee Ringo and Adoree’Jackson are not NFL corners, and if Mitchell is out for an extended period of time, Philadelphia could be in serious trouble in the secondary.

Offensively, it’s been what we’ve seen all year long, one good half and one bad half of football. The Eagles were shutout in the second half against the Giants.

Jalen Hurts was okay(24/33, 283 yards, two total touchdowns), but he missed a wide-open DeVonta Smith in the third quarter, which would have been a touchdown, and he threw his first interception of the year in the fourth. Hurts has to be better. Saquon Barkley(12 carries, 58 yards) rushed for 31 yards on the first drive and had only 27 yards the rest of the way, and the offensive line continues to be very average.

It’s hard to defend OC Kevin Patullo. Things have to get better, or he might not make it past this year.

It’s not time to panic, but it’s time for the Eagles to play with more urgency.

What’s Next:

The Eagles go on the road to face the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday.

One More Thing…

The Giants get their first win against an NFC East opponent since Week 18 in 2023. Interestingly, their last win in the NFC East was also against the Philadelphia Eagles.
