The New York Giants suffered a setback in their game against the Philadelphia Eagles, losing 38-20 at Lincoln Financial Field.
The loss was compounded by the injury of their promising rookie running back, Cam Skattebo, who is likely out for the season after dislocating his ankle in the second quarter.
Skattebo, who had an 18-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter, left in the second quarter after dislocating his ankle, which was very gruesome. The rookie running back was scheduled to have surgery on his ankle on Sunday night.
Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who had formed a strong bond with Skattebo, was visibly shaken by the injury.
“Yeah, I was devastated,” Dart said after the loss. “It’s my boy, man, so seeing him go down and obviously reacting to what happened, that sucks. It’s the worst part of this game.”
While it was emotional for Dart to see Skattebo get carted off, he knew he had to keep playing to win the game.
“I mean, during him getting carted off, it’s emotional,” Dart said. “But, you try to go back in the huddle and try to just reload and just try to go down and score.”
Giants coach Brian Daboll says it was tough seeing Skattebo go down.
“Yeah, feel absolutely terrible for the young man,” Daboll said. “Obviously, saw it looked bad. I know you feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has a really bad injury, and I feel, and I know the players feel the same way about [Giants RB Cam Skattebo].”
Both Dart and Skattebo brought different energy that sparked the Giants, and both were playing well this season. Tough to see any injury like that, and hopefully, Skattebo, who was turning into a fan favorite in New York, can make a full recovery.
