Eagles are formidable but repeating won’t be easy

You know what’s more complicated than winning a Super Bowl? Trying to win it again in the next season, and that’s what the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to do in 2025.

Last season, after a slow start, the Eagles came together on both sides of the ball. Running back Saquon Barkley had over 2,000 yards rushing, Jalen Hurts was efficient and did not turn the ball over, and the defense was stout, shutting teams down. Ultimately, that recipe led to the team defeating the Chiefs in Super Bowl 59.

As they enter the 2025 season, the Eagles, despite losing some key players, remain undaunted. They understand that with a salary cap, you can’t keep everybody, and the Eagles let some talented players go elsewhere. But they are ready to face the challenge head-on.

On defense, Philly lost key contributors such as safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson(traded to the Texans), corner Darius Slay, DE Josh Sweat, DT Milton Williams, OG Mehki Becton, and DE Brandon Graham(retirement).

They will miss those above players; however, they are banking on guys like Moro Ojomo to replace Williams, Adoree Jackson to replace Slay, Sydney Brown and Andrew Mukuba to replace CJGJ, Joshua Uche, Azeez Ojulari, and Jalyx Hunt to replace Graham and Sweat, and Tyler Steen to replace Becton. If they can be comparable, the Eagles will be fine. If not, especially on defense, the team could struggle, but they still have defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, which helps.

However, outside of Becton, the offense remains largely unchanged. The wide receivers are the same(A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith), the tight end(Dallas Goedert) is still in place, and Hurts and Barkley are still there, so the offense should be formidable once again.

Of course, as always, Hurts will have a new offensive coordinator. Kevin Patullo replaced the departed Kellen Moore, who took a head coaching job with the Saints. This will be his fifth OC in six seasons, and the team is optimistic that the two will mesh well in 2025.

Prediction:

Nick Sirianni and Hurts have made the playoffs every year together, and they will make the playoffs again this season. However, it’s challenging to repeat, and for the Eagles to do so, Hurts may need to be better than he was in 2024, as the defense may not be the same, and teams will likely look to stop Barkley and dare Hurts to beat them.

Eagles will go 13-4 in 2025, but they will not win a Super Bowl this season. They will fall short. However, with the talent they have, anything is possible.
