The Philadelphia 76ers have waived guard Ricky Council IV, the team announced on Friday.
Last season, in 73 games, Council IV averaged 7.3 points.
Council IV, who went undrafted out of N.C. State in 2023, appeared in 105 games (12 starts) over two seasons with the 76ers, averaging 6.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 14.6 minutes per game.
The 23-year-old, who signed a four-year, $7.4 million contract with the team in April 2024, had his moments with the team.
However, with the addition of first-round pick V.J. Edgecombe, with the probable return of restricted free agent Quentin Grimes, and the return of Jared McCain from injury, Council IV got caught up in a numbers game.
He’s a talented player with a bright future ahead of him, and he’ll get another shot elsewhere. At this point, the 76ers roster stands at 13, but they’ll will definitely change before the start of next season.
