Reese: ‘I’m really proud of how I’ve been able to turn things around’

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese got off to a slow start this season. Her critics were calling her out, but that seems to be all behind her, as she has been playing at a high level lately, including Sunday’s game against the Sparks in Los Angeles, which featured Candace Parker having her jersey retired.

Reese had game-highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds, to go along with a game-high tying seven assists as the Sky defeated the Sparks 92-85.

Earlier this week, the Sky defeated the Sparks 97-86 in Chicago. In that game, Reese had 18 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

In the last four games, Reese has been on fire, averaging 17.3 points, 17.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.3 steals. This was the fourth game in a row that Reese got at least 15 rebounds in a game, setting a new WNBA record.

Angel Reese is unbelievable on the rebounds,” Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts said before the game. “And you can talk about it, and you can watch it, and you can drill it. There’s no way to duplicate it, to prepare… Her motor is so high, and I have a lot of respect for her as a competitor.”

After the win, the second-year forward discussed her early-season struggles and her recent performance.

“I’m really proud of how I’ve been able to turn things around,” Reese said. “It’s a testament to the hard work I’ve put in and the support I’ve received. I struggled in the first eight, nine games, and not being what I should have been,” Reese said. “Obviously, it happens, and I was very hard on myself, tough conversations with myself, tough conversations with people that kept it real with me; telling me what I need to work on and get better at.”

Reese’s commitment to her team and her relentless work ethic are truly commendable. She leads the league in rebounding. This is the All-Star caliber play we thought we would see from Reese at the start of the season, and it’s a testament to her dedication to the game and her team.
