Jake Paul wins again, proves he’s good for Boxing

Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) continues to make the transition from Youtuber to Boxer after a significant victory. He easily defeated former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-7-1, 34 KOs) by unanimous decision on Saturday night in their 10-round cruiserweight showdown at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California(DAZN PPV).

All three judges scored the fight in favor of Paul (99-91, 98-92, 97-93).

Paul, 28, dominated the 39-year-old Chavez Jr. for the first eight rounds. He utilized and worked off the jab, used combinations, and was in control as Chavez Jr. did not throw many punches and was not very active.

In the final two rounds, Chavez Jr., the son of boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., was very active and was landing on Paul, who did a great job of clinching in these moments. If Chavez Jr. fought like that from the beginning, maybe it’s a different story.

After his loss to Tommy Fury, many people wrote Paul off. However, according to him, that loss was a crucial turning point in his career. It served as a catalyst for his growth and a reminder to stay focused on becoming a better fighter.

“I don’t even think I was a fighter then,” Paul said about the loss to Fury. “That was like two and a half years into the sport, and I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t have the proper team around me. I didn’t have conditioning. My lifestyle outside of the ring was still that of a YouTuber, celebrity, actor, whatever I was at that point in time. So I wasn’t fully focused on boxing. Like I said, chapter one is done tonight, and now we’re moving into chapter two. I’m just getting warmed up in the sport. People hold the Tommy Fury thing against me, but what now? I just beat a former world champion, and I’m coming to avenge that loss as well with Tommy.”

Paul moves on and after the win, he called out some big names in the sport, including Gilberto Ramirez, Anthony Joshua, and Gervonta Davis. However, Paul, who the WBA will rank after this win, is looking to make some noise in the cruiserweight division. He believes that if he gets a belt, it could set up a potential matchup with Canelo Alvarez, a fight that would undoubtedly draw significant attention and interest in the boxing world.”

I’m going to want to fight for the cruiserweight championship and add that belt to my resume,” Paul said after the win. “I think he(Canelo) would become a four or five-weight champion. I think that would be what interests him, and that’s the plan.”

Hate or love Paul, he’s popular and brings eyes and ears to the sport, which is never a bad thing.
