On Monday, Temple Football announced agreements with Rutgers University and the University of Delaware for future non-conference football games.
The Owls will begin a four-game home-and-home series with Rutgers in 2030. The series will begin in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 7, 2030, before heading to SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J., the following year (September 6). Temple will host again in 2032 (September 11) before returning to Rutgers in 2033 (September 10).
Temple will play a two-game home-and-home series against Delaware beginning in 2032. The series will kick off in Newark, Del., on Thursday, September 2, 2032. Temple will host the season opener the following year (September 1).
Owls head coach K.C. Keeler is looking forward to playing more local teams.
“Since my arrival at Temple in December, I have said that we need to get back to recruiting within our footprint and playing non-conference games against teams in our area,” said Keeler in a press release. “Having schools like Rutgers and Delaware on our schedule is great for our program, our student-athletes, and our fans. It will be exciting to see people come out and pack the stadiums.”
Temple has played Rutgers 39 previous times, with the Scarlet Knights holding a 15-24 advantage. The schools last played on September 9, 2023, with Rutgers winning at home, while Temple and Delaware have played 36 games against each other, including a 32-year consecutive stretch from 1954 to 1985.
Last season, the Temple Owls finished with a 3-9 record.
