Former NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams will make his amateur boxing debut at the upcoming Broad Street Brawl, hosted on May 29th at the Léman Ballroom in New York City, Uprising Promotions announced Monday.
Carter-Williams, a standout guard from Syracuse University and the 11th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, immediately impacted the league. He earned 2013–14 NBA Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game for the Sixers during his rookie season.
The 33-year-old last played for the Magic in 2023.
After a decade-long professional basketball career, Carter-Williams has since turned his focus to a variety of new business endeavors, and he has also begun work as a college basketball analyst for ESPN. Carter-Williams started boxing and is now set to make his amateur debut on May 29th.
The event will raise funds for Bigvision Community, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young adults in recovery from substance abuse.
