The Philadelphia 76ers dropped their 11th straight game after falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves 114-109 at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night.
However, there was a lot of excitement, especially from Anthony Edwards and Quentin Grimes.
Grimes scored 26 of his team-high 28 points(10/10 FG, 6/10 3-PT FG) in the second half, including 17 points in the fourth quarter, and he kept the 76ers in the game, but Edwards just a little bit better.
The All-Star guard would score 18 of his game-high 37 points in the fourth quarter, including an incredible game-clinching three with two 76ers draped all over him with 07.4 seconds left.
For Grimes, who the 76ers acquired from the Mavs before the All-Star break, this was his third consecutive 20-point game and his 12th over his last 13 outings, and after a slow start, he knew he had to be more aggressive in the second half.
“I just knew I had to come out in the second half and be more aggressive,” he said. “In the first half, they were loading up pretty heavy on my drives, and I was trying to make the right play. Had a couple of boneheaded turnovers so I was just trying to be, in the second half, come out with the mindset to be in attack mode, try to do whatever I can to help the team win at that point.”
Guerschon Yabusele, who had 19 points on Saturday, had high praise for Grimes.
“He’s really fearless,” Yabusele said. “He’s really giving it out there, he played one hundred percent. His tough shots, his ability to create his own shot, and be able to score when it’s really contested has been amazing. When you look at tonight, he got two or three threes that got us back in the game, it was just amazing. When he’s in that zone, you feel like there’s nothing you can really do.”
Saturday’s loss was the perfect situation for Philadelphia. They played hard, were competitive, and, most importantly, they lost. This may not be a bad thing as they continue to plummet in the standings, which could help them get a better pick in the draft.
