In early March, the Philadelphia 76ers shut down center Joel Embiid with a left knee injury, and at that time, the team and Embiid were working on a treatment plan.
On Wednesday, the team announced Embiid would get surgery on his left knee.
“Following consultations with medical experts, it has been determined that Joel Embiid will undergo arthroscopic surgery next week to address his left knee,” the team said in a statement.
“Further updates will be provided following the procedure.”
Due to ongoing issues with his left knee, Embiid, who signed a three-year, $193 million extension with the team in the offseason, played only 19 games this season.
Last January, the 30-year-old Embiid had knee surgery after a meniscus injury; he returned later that season but was not the same. Last summer, he played in the Olympics, and while he helped Team USA win Gold, he was not the same.
Hopefully, the 76ers and Embiid can get the knee right going forward.
The 76ers, who lost to the Knicks 105-91 at MSG, will return to action on Thursday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks.
