Anytime you win a Super Bowl, it’s hard to keep your roster intact because teams are going to want the players that helped you get a title, and that is the case with the Philadelphia Eagles, who reportedly lost three key players from its defense and traded away their backup quarterback.
Sweat to Arizona:
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, LB/DE Josh Sweat and the Cardinals reached agreement on a four-year deal worth $76.4 million, including $41 million guaranteed.
The 27-year-old is reunited with Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon, who was Sweat’s defensive coordinator for two seasons in Philadelphia. Sweat had big performance in Super Bowl 59 as he had 2.5 sacks. Last season, he had 8.0 sacks for the Eagles. The third-round pick in 2018, recorded 43.0 sacks for Philadelphia in seven seasons with the team. Sweat, who made the Pro Bowl in 2021, had a career-high 11 sacks in 2022.
Williams to New England:
Also, according to Schefter, DL Milton Williams reached agreement with the Patriots on a four-year, $104 million deal that includes $63 million guaranteed. Williams, like Sweat, had a strong performance in the Super Bowl; the 25-year-old had two sacks, a forced and recovered fumble. The four-year veteran was selected in the third round by the Eagles in 2021. Last season, Williams had a career-high 5.0 sacks.
Rodgers to Minnesota:
In addition, Schefter reported that corner Isaiah Rodgers reached agreement on a two-year $15 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings. The deal includes $8 million fully guaranteed. Last season, the 27-year-old Rodgers, who the Eagles signed in 2023 after he released by the Colts following the announcement that he would be suspended for the 2023 season by the NFL for violating the league’s gambling policy, played well at times when he replaced an injured Darius Slay. The four-year veteran showed signs that he could be starter for the Eagles or another team next season.
Pickett to Cleveland:
Finally, the Eagles are trading third-year QB KennyPickett to the Cleveland Browns for a 2025 fifth-round pick and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Last season, the 26-year-old Pickett, who the Eagles acquired from the Steelers last offseason, backed up Jalen Hurts and started one game for Philadelphia. The former first round pick threw for 291 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in one season with the Eagles.
Cleveland is a good situation for Pickett, who could start while Deshaun Watson continues to recover from a torn Achilles.
The legal tampering window began at 12 P.M. on Monday, but all deals won’t be official until 4 P.M. on Wednesday.
