Cavs’ Mitchell named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

On Monday, the NBA announced that Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 27, through Sunday, February 2.

Mitchell has now won the Player of the Week award twice this season, joining teammate Darius Garland, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, and Nikola Jokic as the only players in the NBA to earn the honor multiple times this season.

This past week, Mitchell led the Cavaliers to a perfect 4-0 record, helping improve the team’s overall record to an NBA-best 40-9 this season, the best start in franchise history and tied for the 17th best start in league history. Mitchell averaged a team-high 22.8 points on .533 shooting from the field, .406 shooting from three-point range and .933 from the foul line, 6.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in just 28.0 minutes per contest.

Named as a 2025 NBA All-Star starter, his sixth consecutive All-Star selection, Mitchell has appeared in 47 games (all starts) this season with averages of 23.7 points (21st-best in NBA), 4.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.40 steals (T-21st in NBA) in 31.1 minutes. He has also made a team-high 172 three-pointers, the fourth most in the NBA, and is shooting a career-high .398 from three-point range.

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James won Player of the Week accolades for the Western Conference.
