The Dallas Mavericks continue to remake their roster as they traded guard Quentin Grimes and a 2025 second-round pick (more favorable of Denver and Philadelphia) to the 76ers for forward Caleb Martin, the teams announced Tuesday.
Ironically, Dallas, who recently traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick, was in Philly to face the 76ers on Tuesday night.
Grimes, who was acquired by the Mavs from the Pistons in July and can become a restricted free agent this summer, reportedly negotiated an extension with Dallas, but the two sides could not come to an agreement.
In 47 games, the 24-year-old Grimes is averaging 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 22.8 minutes per game. His career-best 39.8-percent mark from three-point range on 4.3 attempts per contest ranked second on the Mavericks in 2024-25. Grimes should give the 76ers more depth at the guard spot.
The 29-year-old Martin, who signed a four-year, $35 million deal with the 76ers in July after spending the last three seasons with the Heat, saw action in 31 games (24 starts) for Philadelphia this season. He posted 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 30.4 minutes per game. He has not played the last 12 games with a hip injury. When healthy, Martin probably will backup P.J. Washington and newly acquired forward Anthony Davis.
