The Minnesota Vikings send a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Houston Texas in exchange for RB Cam Akers and a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the teams announced Tuesday.
This is Akers’ second stint with the Vikings. The four-year veteran should give the Vikings more depth at the running back position.
In 2024, he appeared in five games with two starts with the Texans, totaling 147 rushing yards and one touchdown on 40 attempts and four receptions for 16 yards and one touchdown.
The 25-year-old Akers, who signed with the Texans as a free agent on July 22, was acquired via trade by the Vikings last season on September 20, 2023, where he played in six games with the team before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. In his career, Akers has appeared in 41 games (17 starts), totaling 1,728 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 438 carries and 336 yards and two touchdowns on 42 receptions.
Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell and Offensive Coordinator Wes Phillips were on the Rams offensive coaching staff during Akers’ tenure with the Rams, who drafted him in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.
