Goff, Andersen, Taylor named NFC Players of the Week

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, Atlanta Falcons linebacker Troy Andersen and Chicago Bears punter Tory Taylor are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for Week 4, the league announced on Wednesday.

OFFENSE

Goff completed all 18 of his pass attempts for 292 yards and three touchdowns (two passing, one receiving) for a 155.8 passer rating in Detroit’s Week 4 win. He became the first quarterback in NFL history with a perfect completion percentage (minimum 15 attempts) and his 292 passing yards are the most-ever by a quarterback with no incompletions in a game.

  • This is the sixth-career Player of the Week Award for Goff and third with the Lions:

  • Goff becomes the first Lions quarterback ever to earn the honor three times, surpassing Scott Mitchell (two-time winner) and Rodney Peete (two).

DEFENSE

  • Andersen led the NFL with a career-high 16 tackles and had a 47-yard interception-return for a touchdown in Atlanta’s 26-24 victory over New Orleans. He is one of six players since 2000 to record at least 15 tackles and an interception-return touchdown in a single game..

  • With Andersen and safety Jessie Bates, who earned the honor in Week 2, the Falcons are the first team this season to have multiple players win Defensive Player of the Week.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Taylor totaled five punts in Chicago’s victory over the Rams, with a 55.4 average (48.0 net) and three of the five punts landing inside the 10-yard line, the most of any punter in Week 4

  • This marks the third-consecutive year in which a rookie punter has won a Special Teams Player of the Week award, as Taylor joins Ethan Evans (Week 11, 2023), Ryan Stonehouse (Week 10, 2022), Jake Camarda (Week 9, 2022) and Ryan Wright (Week 6, 2022).
