Magic sign Slam Dunk Champion Mac McClung

The Orlando Magic have signed free agent guards Mac McClung, Javonte Smart and Ethan Thompson, the team announced on Thursday.

According to reports, the contracts are Exhibit 10 deals, a one-year, non-guaranteed contract making the league minimum. The contract can be converted to a two-way deal, but this conversion must be done before the regular season.

In addition, Orlando has waived guard Myron Gardner and forward Tre Scott. Gardner and Scott were originally signed by the Magic on September 11.

McClung, who won the Slam Dunk contest for the second consecutive year last season, played and started in 27 games last season with Osceola of the NBA G League, averaging a league-best 25.7 ppg., 6.6 apg., and 4.7 rpg, per contest.

He was named the 2023-24 NBA G League Most Valuable Player and also earned 2023-24 All-NBA G League First Team honors. At NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, McClung

Undrafted by an NBA franchise, McClung has played in four career NBA regular season games with Chicago, the L.A. Lakers and Philadelphia, averaging 8.3 ppg., 3.3 rpg. and 2.5 apg.

Smart played in one game last season with Philadelphia. He also appeared and started in six games with Delaware of the NBA G League, averaging 18.5 ppg., 4.7 apg. and 2.5 rpg. in 34.2 mpg. In addition, Smart played in Serbia with Crvena zvezda.

Undrafted by an NBA franchise, Smart has appeared in 18 career NBA regular season games (one start) with Milwaukee, Miami and Philadelphia, averaging 2.8 ppg. and 1.3 rpg. in 11.2 minpg.

Thompson played and started in 33 games last season with Mexico City of the NBA G League, averaging 22.8 ppg., 5.1 apg., 4.5 rpg. and 1.45 stlpg. in 37.2 mpg. He was named to the 2023-24 All-NBA G League Third Team.
