After two weeks, the New York Giants are 0-2, and things are not looking up.
The next six weeks will be challenging. Five of the six teams the Giants play made the playoffs last season, including the team they battle on the road this Sunday, the Cleveland Browns(1-1).
Despite their 0-2 start, Giants Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II believes things can turn around.
I know the leaders,” Lawrence said. “I think it starts with us, getting guys ready to go. Just go out there and be ready for one day. We’re really preparing all 364 days a year to be ready for Sunday. I think the biggest thing is come in ready Sunday and win it.”
Lawrence also had a message for the fans.
“It’s going to get better,” he said. “Right now, it’s just rough. These two games, you can’t compare this season to last season. It’s a whole new team. A lot of new players. A couple new staff. It’s just a little growing pain through these first two weeks. I think the way the players control… how we control our minds and our body languages and our attitudes each and every day, it can only be promising from there.”
Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who had 10 catches for 127 yards and a touchdown in last Sunday’s loss to the Commanders, believes New York has a talented football team.
“Talent is everywhere,” Nabers said. “It’s the hard work that overdoes talent. And we’ve got a great locker room. We’ve got great veterans in this locker room that like to lead the team. So, we’re going in there with a positive attitude.”
At 0-2, the belief is that the Giants are a desperate team. When asked if he wanted to see desperation from the Giants on Sunday, their head coach, Brian Daboll, said he wanted the team to be consistent.
“I want to see consistency like we talk about every week,” Daboll said. “Go in, prepare the right way, come out, play a good football game, do good in situations, play together. Each week is its own week, and we’ll just focus on the Browns this week.”
This feels like a must-win game for the Giants, and they must play desperation. We’ll see how desperate they are against the Browns on Sunday.
