Lakers to honor Jerry West this season

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that they will wear a commemorative No. 44 band on the left shoulder of their uniform this season, honoring Lakers legend Jerry West.

Los Angeles will open the season Tuesday, Oct. 22, celebrating West, who passed away in June, as they host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Crypto.com Arena. The team will recognize West’s significant contributions to the organization as a player and executive across three decades.

In addition, the Lakers will retire Michael Cooper’s No. 21 jersey on Jan. 13. The Laker legend was recently elected to the Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in October.

Last season, Los Angeles finished the season 47-35 and lost to the Nuggets in five in the first round of the playoffs.
