Memphis Grizzlies forward GG Jackson II underwent a successful procedure to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot, the team announced on Wednesday.
According to the Grizzlies, Jackson II will be reevaluated in approximately three months and is expected to make a full recovery.
The 19-year-old injured his foot while playing basketball outside of Dallas on August 27; after attempting a contested layup, Jackson II experienced an unstable landing on his right foot.
Last season, Jackson, who was named to the All-Rookie Second Team, played in 48 games (18 starts) and averaged 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 25.7 minutes after the Grizzlies selected him with the 45th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The youngest player in the NBA last season, he ranked fourth among rookies in scoring average and third after the All-Star break, behind only San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama and Charlotte’s Brandon Miller. He also ranked fourth in defensive rating (111.4) among rookies who averaged at least 24 minutes per game.
