The 2024 WNBA All-Star Game won’t be remembered for Angel Reese’s double-double(12 pts & 11 rebs), the first rookie to have a double-double in an All-Star Game, nor for Caitlin Clark’s ten assists, the most by a rookie in an All-Star Game.
This game will be remembered for the play of Dallas Wings star guard Arike Ogunbowale.
She scored an All-Star Game record 34 points, including 21 in the third, to lead the WNBA All-Stars to a 117-109 victory over Team USA at Footprint Center in Phoenix on Saturday night.
Ogunbowale earned her second WNBA All-Star Game MVP.
According to Clark, Ogunbowale, who was 8/13 from three-point range, is the best one-on-one player in the league.
“In my eyes, she’s the best one-on-one player in this league,” Clark said. “She just has that skill; she can get whatever shot whenever she wants it. That’s how good she is with the ball. It was fun to watch.”
Ogunbowale was happy with Clark’s compliment.
“I appreciate that,” she said. “I love her game too, so that’s what’s up.”
Ogunbowale was unstoppable on Saturday night, and the WNBA All-Stars don’t win without her.
For Team USA, Breanna Stewart had a team-high 31 points, and A’ja Wilson added 22.
This was an entertaining game from start to finish, and maybe the NBA could use a similar format to make its All-Star Game more appealing to the fans.
