On Friday, the Philadelphia Eagles had their first day of Rookie Mini-Camp, which is an opportunity for Nick Sirianni and his coaching staff to get their first look at the players they selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, including their two top picks, defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell(Toledo) and Cooper DeJean(Iowa).
Philadelphia Eagles secured Mitchell with the 22nd overall pick, a testament to his potential. They further bolstered their defense by adding DeJean in the second round, a pick that speaks to his promising skills.
Here’s what Sirianni had to say about the speedy Mitchell, who ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the combine.
“We had limited reps today,” he said. “I got to see [CB Quinyon Mitchell] him go through drills. You saw the burst and quickness that we saw on tape of why we drafted him in the first round—made a couple of nice plays on the ball today out there with some 7-on-7 speed. And so just excited to see him out there on the field and competing. Again, limited reps today, but you did see the quickness and the burst and the acceleration.”
Sirianni also explained how Mitchell and the versatile DeJean will help the team’s secondary in 2024.
“Cooper [DeJean] has obviously versatility,” he said. “[CB] Quinyon [Mitchell] has big play ability. They both have big play ability. Obviously we’re not to a point where this guy’s playing here or that guy’s playing here or this guy’s limited to just this. We’re just out there right now getting some reps out there and seeing where they fit.”
We know about DeJean’s versatility and Mitchell’s speed, and the Eagles are excited about their two young defensive backs. Hopefully, these guys can give the Eagles a lot of production in 2024.
