Kyrie Irving named Western Conference Player of the Week

Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Maverick are balling, and Irving, like Luka Doncic did last week, was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, April 1 through Sunday, April 7, the NBA announced on Monday.

Irving led the Mavericks to a 3-1 week with averages of 31.8 points (.524 FG%, .400 3FG%, .931 FT%), 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals in 40.3 minutes per game.

The eight-time All-Star topped 25 points in all four games, helping Dallas close out the week with three straight victories. Irving capped off the week by posting a Mavericks career-high 48 points (15-25 FG, 3-8 3FG, 15-17 FT), including 25 in the fourth quarter and overtime, in Dallas’ 147-136 come-from-behind victory over Houston on April 7. His 19-point fourth quarter marked the most points by a Maverick in the fourth period this season and helped Dallas overcome a 22-point first-half deficit.

Irving has played in 29 straight games dating back to Feb. 5 and Dallas has gone 22-7 in that stretch. The Mavericks have gone 14-2 in their last 16 games, their best 16-game stretch since their championship season in 2010-11.

For the season, Irving is averaging 25.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.3 steals, and 34.9 minutes in 56 games (all starts). He is one of nine players averaging at least 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 2023-24 (min. 50 games played).

Dallas, who has won 14 of their last 16 games, travels to Charlotte to battle the Hornets on Tuesday night.
