Zach Willson leads the way for Jets over Texans

In the first half against the Houston Texans(7-6) on Sunday, it was the same old New York Jets(5-8) on offense.

New York went scoreless in the first half, and they had difficulty moving the ball. However, the defense did their job, and the game was tied at zero at halftime.

In the second half, Zach Wilson, who got his first start after being benched for two games, stepped up, and the Jets would score 30 second-half points and defeat the Texans 30-6 at MetLife Stadium.

After going 9/15 for 92 yards in the first half, Wilson completed 18 of 21 passes for 209 and two touchdowns in the second half.

The third-year quarterback finished the game, completing 27 of 35 passes for 301 yards and had a career-high 75% completion percentage. Additionally, Wilson had a passer rating of 117.9, which is also a career-high.

According to Wilson, he played “aggressively smart.”

“I think the word I gave you guys about being aggressively smart is the key, right?” he said. “It’s taking shots when you feel like there’s an opportunity there and when there’s not how can you protect the ball and check it down. Having a mixture of both.”

This was definitely Wilson’s best game of the season and easily could have been the best game of his career.

“We’ll go back and watch,” he said. “Like I said to you guys, the flow of just playing football today was there, and I can’t say it’s been like that a lot, unfortunately, in my career here. That’s what we’re searching for right there is just playing ball, just moving the football, just completing passes. That’s what we’re always hunting for. I thought (it was) an unbelievable job by everybody.”

Garrett Wilson, who caught nine passes for 108 yards, was impressed by his quarterback.

“He balled, he balled,” Wilson said about his quarterbackPut it all out there, throwing dots in the rain and those things mess with what they were trying to do on offense. As far as what we were trying to do Zach handled it and that is always our goal, handle it better than them and we did. Zach went crazy today, like I said, he has got all the faith in us in the world. It is great to see him and the just hoop.”

This was a great bounce-back game for Wilson, and hopefully, it will give him confidence moving forward.
