On Monday, boxing writer Dan Rafael reported that David Benavidez(27-0, 23 KOs) and David Morrel Jr.(9-0, 8 KOs) had a deal in place to fight sometime in the fall.
However, according to Benavidez, who responded to the report on social media, that’s not the case.
On Tuesday, Morrell Jr. responded, and he wasn’t very polite. According to Morrell Jr., Benavidez is a “coward” and is always looking for a way out.
“David Benavidez is a big b****,” said Morrell Jr. “His dad is a big fraud, always talking like he’s some tough guy, but he’s just a small man with little man complex. His brother wants to be gangster who talks a lot of shit but got knocked out by Crawford and did a horrible job in the movie “Creed.” The Benavidez’ are a bunch of cowards. This is the guy you call The Mexican Monster? He’s a fraud. This is the guy everyone is building up.”
Recently, Benavidez’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, said that they offered $50 million to undisputed 168-pound champion Canelo Alvarez for a fight with Benavidez.
According to Lewkowicz, Alvarez never responded to the offer. and Benavidez was looking to fight Morrell Jr. Now, Morrell Jr. thinks Benavidez is ducking him.
“I see a fat insecure boy…that’s what I see,” Morrell Jr. said. “Benavidez couldn’t walk down any street in Cuba without getting his shoes taken. Funny, he calls Canelo a duck; who’s the duck now?”
Morrell Jr. seeks to test his skills against one of the division’s most accomplished fighters. Benavidez has emerged as one of the sport’s most dangerous fighters, with an unbeaten record and a staggering knockout ratio.
A clash between the two would be fun; where there’s smoke, maybe there’s fire, so maybe we’ll get this fight soon.
