The New York Giants head to London on Sunday to face the Green Bay Packers, hoping to have the services of their quarterback Daniel Jones, who left Sunday’s win over the Bears with an ankle injury. Jones would return to the game against Chicago but was limited.
According to the team’s injury report, Jones was limited during Wednesday’s practice. In addition, Jones’ backup, Tyrod Taylor, who also left Sunday’s win, is still in concussion protocol.
Just in case their quarterbacks can’t go, New York reportedly worked out quarterbacks Jake Fromm and A.J. McCarron this week. Fromm played three games for the Giants last season.
New York head coach Brian Daboll said on Wednesday that if Taylor can’t go, the team will bring up Davis Webb, and it appears if both Jones and Taylor can’t go, Webb would be the starter.
However, Daboll says Jones has made progress since Sunday.
“I think he’s made a lot or progress since after the game, and he’s been in the treatment room pretty consistently throughout these last couple of days,” Daboll said. “So, we’ll put him out there, give him some reps and see where he’s at.”
Jones also believes he has made progress since Sunday.
Yeah, felt good. Felt good out there,” he said. “I’ve been working with the trainers, and I’ve made a lot of progress the last couple of days. I’ll continue to listen to them and continue to do what I can to be back out there.
Regarding playing against Packers, Jones says it’s still early, but again, he feels better.
“It’s early in the week, so I’m just trying to do everything that I can day-by-day to get back there,” he said. “Like I said, I’m feeling good. I’m feeling a lot better today.
The fourth-year quarterback loves to use his legs and had touchdown runs of 21 and eight yards against the Bears. After four games, Jones has 193 yards rushing and two touchdowns, but he is confident in his ability to work from the pocket if limited.
“I think, for one, Sunday is a little bit away,” he said. “I think I’ll continue to progress throughout the week and see how I feel. I’m confident in my ability to throw from the pocket, throw outside the pocket, and make plays from both.”
At this point, all New York can do is hope for the best.
