Charlo: ‘Rosario is just another fighter with two arms, two legs and a mind’

The last time the Charlo Twins headlined a card together was December 22, 2018, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Jermall was able to beat Matt Korobov by unanimous decision. However, Jermell’s night did not end so well, as he would lose his WBC 154-pound title to Tony Harrison by unanimous decision.

Now, on September 26, the Charlo Twins are going to headline another card. This time, on Showtime PPV. WBC 160-pound champion Jermall Charlo(30-0, 22 KOs) will battle Sergiy Derevyanchenko(13-2 10 KOs), while WBC 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo(33-1, 17 KOs) will try to unify the titles when he fights 154-pound unified champion(WBA, IBF), Jeison Rosario(20-1-1, 14 KOs).

“This opportunity is finally here, and I’m happy that me and my brother have this day to show how much we put into the sport,” Jermell Charlo said last week via a Zoom conference call to announce the fight. “Now is our time to be PPV stars.

According to the 30-year-old Charlo, who regained his title by stopping Harrison back in December, fans will recognize him and his brother as pound-for-pound bests after these fights.

“People will be saying that ‘the Charlos are boxing’ after September 26,” Charlo said. “They’ll have to put us on the pound-for-pound lists after our performances.”

The 25-year-old Rosario is coming off the biggest win of his career when he stopped Julian Williams back in January to capture the titles, but that does not mean much to Charlo, who is going for the knockout against Rosario.

“Rosario is just another fighter with two arms, two legs, and a mind,” Charlo said. “I’m going to do what I do and be destructive. My job is to take his titles, and that’s what I’m planning to do…

“If Rosario can’t take the power, we can fight all twelve. I can take a punch, but we don’t know if he can take a Jermell Charlo punch. We’re going for knockouts. I like to set it up and deliver it within the 12 rounds.”

As we saw against Williams, Rosario has decent power. This is a 50-50 fight, and if Charlo does plan to be aggressive and go for the knockout, we might see some serious fireworks on September 26.
