(Video)Erickson Lubin: ‘I think I’m the best in this division(154)’

In 2017, 154-pound contender Erickson Lubin had an opportunity to win his first title when he battled then 154-pound WBC champion Jermell Charlo.  The trash-talk leading up to the fight was fierce, and Lubin was ready to get the title, but the unthinkable happened. Lubin got caught with a right uppercut and was stopped in the first round.

That was then, and this now. Lubin(20-1, 15 KOs) is on a two-fight winning streak and is now being trained by Kevin Cunningham. With Cunningham in his corner, Lubin stopped the durable Ishe Smith back in February. It was the first time Smith has been stopped in his career.

The 23-year-old Lubin feels he is a much different fighter since the Charlo fight and hopes he can get the rematch.

“I feel like my whole game has tweaked up to a whole another level, man,” Lubin recently told Paul Gant.  “I feel like I’m definitely ready, definitely hungry too, man. I can’t wait to get that rematch against him. I’m seeking revenge.”

When asked if things would be different against Charlo, Lubin had this to say.

“You think I’m going to let somebody stop me in the first round again? Hell no!” Lubin said.

Lubin is young, strong, and has a lot of skills. And his mind, he is has the most talent in the 154-pound division.

“I got the most skill in the weight class, and I’m the youngest in the weight class that is doing it,” Lubin said. “It’s just up to me to show improve now. Some may have their own opinions and have their favorites in this division, but this is the most “lit” division in boxing. I think I’m the best in this division, so it’s up to me to show it now, and that’s what I’m going to do.”

Lubin expects to return to the ring in the summer.
